The US Centers for Disease Control met American passengers of cruise ship MV Hondius upon their arrival in the country. The plane with evacuees landed at Omaha airport, where they were met by CDC specialists and National Quarantine Center staff.
Passengers underwent comprehensive medical examination before boarding the plane and after landing. None of them showed symptoms of hantavirus, however all will be under monitoring for 42 days — the incubation period of the disease.
Monitoring Protocol
Americans are placed in a special isolation unit of the National Quarantine Center. They will undergo daily medical examinations and tests. If symptoms appear, they will be immediately isolated and treatment will begin.
The CDC head stated at a press conference that the risk of virus spread among the population is extremely low. Nevertheless, the agency took all necessary precautionary measures. Three people died from the virus on board the ship.
